Old Dominion University Fashion Academy

A Summer Fashion Experience for High School Students

The 2009 Academy will return July 20-24.

Overview

During the period of July 20 through 24, 2009, the Old Dominion University Fashion Program will host its third annual one-week fashion education day program that provides high school students hands-on college-level experiences in fashion merchandising.

Students will complete exciting activities in sales promotion, market planning, computer-based design and production, fashion research, and fashion career planning.

Students will work together on team projects in which they apply what they learn from short lectures. Activities are not limited to the projects. Outside the walls of ODU, students will participate in a fashion-focused field trip for a behind the scenes look at MacArthur Mall and the fashion art in Chrysler Museum.

Activities:

Students will:

  • Gain hands-on experience doing college-level fashion projects.
  • Work collaboratively with a team to complete a fashion research project.
  • Learn about careers in fashion buying, management, and design.
  • Meet students with common interests.

Dates for Summer 2009:   July 20-24

Cost: $350 Per Person (Includes instruction, supplies, transportation on field trips. Does not include meals.)   A limited amount of scholarship funding is available.  Go to Scholarship Information for information.

The Fashion Academy is sponsored and supervised by the Fashion Program in the Department of Occupational and Technical Studies, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia.
